SCARBORO DAY CARE CENTER

The Scarboro Day Care Center was opened in September of 1950 under the sponsorship of the United Council of Church Women of Oak Ridge (now Church Women United). The center was founded to assist working parents of lower economic means with affordable quality child care. This continues to be Scarboro Day Care Center’s purpose today. The Scarboro Day Care Center maintains a sliding scale for tuition fees. Verification of family situations determines the fee. The center is a participant Douglas-Cherokee Certificate Program. A scholarship committee reviews applications for financial assistance. The Scarboro Day Care Center complies with the licensing requirements as outlined by the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

Their Program Goals for Preschool Children is To provide opportunities for each child to grow in independence,to help each child to grow in social, mental, physical, and spiritual development,to assist in the development of each child’s unique talents and abilities.The School Age Program serves children ages 5 through 12 years of age with before and after school care. All day care is provided when school is not in session. In this program we seek:To provide an environment which supports and encourages individual growth and learning,To foster good relationships to promote healthy attitudes.This means that the Center has been inspected to assure that it meets the minimum standards required by the state.
