Tykes Learning Corner is a home daycare providing childcare in the Glen Cairn area of Kanata (Ottawa), Ontario, Canada. Kimberly McCann, owner and operator has been providing childcare professionally for about ten years in the Ottawa region. Four years at daycare facilities and for the past six years has opened a private daycare. She believe in guiding children through their play. Through play children will learn cognitive, language, physical and social skills. Children go through different stages of development.She believe it is important to look at the stage and to plan developmentally appropriate activities. When dealing with behaviors she believe you need to look at what the function of the behavior is and set an appropriate consequence for the behavior. It is very important to be consistent and to follow through.

Positive reinforcement is an effective tool in guiding children through their play. Giving positive reinforcers will guide children in learning the appropriate skills and behaviors.Her program is based on teacher and child oriented activities and themes. Each week a new theme is chosen either by observation of the childrens interest or teacher directed theme. Every week the theme will include activities that enhance and develop the childrens knowledge in letters, numbers, shapes and colors.
