Central Bark Doggy Daycare

February 23rd, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 Triad, Child Care, Daycare, Learning Center

Central Bark Doggy Day Care first opened its den in 1997 to support the growing number of people who realize that dogs are not just pets. Their pups are friends, companions and family members. And they’re individuals with unique personalites and needs. They also understood that more than ever before, today’s busy lifestyles make it difficult to give pets the attention, structure, training, exercise and mental stimulation necessary for happy and well-rounded lives. And the reality is, dogs crated or isolated for extended periods are deprived of social interaction, and can become lethargic or destructive.

At Central Bark, we understand dogs and their need to exercise. Boredom leads to destructive behaviors such as chewing, licking, digging, or barking. Play keeps a dog’s body and mind active - and builds a healthier, happier, better behaving pet. That’s why your dog’s stay at Central Bark is always rich with activities and attention. Every day is filled with stimulation, interaction, play, as well as nap and quiet time, in a clean, healthy, fun and nurturing environment. As dog lovers and pup parents themselves, their staff is dedicated to ensuring that your dog is well cared for at all times. And they’re thoroughly trained in animal behavior, canine first aid and CPR.

Acre Family Daycare

February 22nd, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 Triad, Child Care, Daycare, Learning Center

Acre Family Day Care was begun in 1988 as a project of the Coalition for a Better Acre. The program was developed in response to two related community needs: jobs and child care. The results of a community-wide survey concluded that it would be better to train local residents to work as family child care providers than to have the agency open a child care center, because a network of family child care homes would not have the physical space limitations of a child care center.Acre Family Day Care provides training programs in English, Spanish and Khmer that enable women to run licensed family child care businesses in their own homes.

Acre Family Day Care has been serving low-income, immigrant women and families in Lowell since 1988. Their mission is to help women build home-based family child care businesses, earning a living wage while providing community-based child care to the families of Lowell.Acre Family Day Care was awarded the Vision 2000 Model of Excellence Award from the United States Small Business Administration (SBA). The Administrator of the SBA, Aida Alvarez, visited Lowell to present the award to our staff and child care providers and referred to our program as a model for the nation.

Hilltop Childrens Center

February 20th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 Triad, Child Care, Daycare, Learning Center

Hilltop Childrens Center is a learning community, built around the relationships among all the children, families, and teachers that make up our program. Our work together is shaped by our commitment to emergent curriculum and anti-bias practices, and by the ideas and experiences of the schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy.Their program is inspired by childrens curiosity and natural inclination to learn through play. Teachers observe childrens play and listen carefully to childrens questions so they may support emergent projects and creations that come directly from the children instead of the teachers. In small group work teams and large group free choice activities, teachers provide invitations to the children on topics they express interest in.Their approach to early childhood education is an interconnected web of practices anchored by our understanding of children as curious, eager to explore and learn, competent and resourceful, ready to collaborate, and full of wonder and delight.

At Hilltop, we view curriculum as everything that happens during our time together with the children. They believe that each moment offers an opportunity to explore relationships and to create a community that nurtures children, teachers, and families. Each moment holds a range of feelings and interests. There are always questions to pursue, hypotheses to investigate, and discoveries to celebrate. Curriculum happens all day, in every routine, action, interaction, and rearrangement of the room.Adults view children as competent, full of wonder, committed to relationships, willing to investigate, critique, reflect , and collaborate. This understanding of children shapes our decisions about how to arrange our classroom environment, schedule our days, and plan our curriculum
